Screen Time Calculator
How much of your life goes to your phone? Enter your daily screen time and see it in days a year and years of your life.
Of the life you have left
0years on a screen
Assumes you live to 80, are awake 16 hours a day, and your screen time stays the same.
Why the yearly number hits harder
"5 hours a day" sounds normal. Everyone's on their phone.
"76 full days a year" doesn't sound normal at all. That's two and a half months, around the clock, every single year. Same habit, different unit.
That's the whole idea of this calculator. Daily numbers hide the cost. Yearly and lifetime numbers show it.
How the maths works
- Per week: daily hours × 7.
- Days per year: daily hours × 365 ÷ 24.
- Years of your life: daily hours ÷ 24 × the years you have left to age 80.
- Share of waking life: daily hours ÷ 16 waking hours.
It assumes your habit stays exactly as it is today. It won't, which is the good news: the number you see is a forecast, not a sentence.
What one hour less actually buys
Cutting your whole phone habit is a fantasy. Cutting one hour is a Tuesday.
One hour a day is 365 hours a year. For scale, that's roughly:
- 60 books at 6 hours each.
- Half of a new language. Learning a language like Spanish to a working level takes around 700 hours of study.
- A workout every single day, with time left over.
How to take the hour back
- Find the one app. For most people a single app is 40% or more of their screen time. That's your target, not "my phone".
- Block it at your worst time. In bed and first thing in the morning are where the unplanned hours live.
- Charge your phone outside the bedroom. It fixes your night and your morning in one move.
BlockerPlus does the blocking part: app limits, schedules and a focus mode. See the screen time control app, or get a day-by-day plan from the Digital Detox Plan Generator. For why it's so hard to put the phone down, read screen time and dopamine.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is lifetime screen time calculated?
Your daily hours are multiplied by the days you have left up to age 80, then divided by 24 to get full years. It assumes your screen time stays the same, which is the point: it shows where today's habit leads if nothing changes.
How do I find my real screen time?
On iPhone: Settings, then Screen Time. On Android: Settings, then Digital Wellbeing. Use the weekly average, not today's number. Most people guess about half of what the phone reports.
What is a healthy amount of screen time for adults?
There's no official limit for adults. What matters is what the time displaces: sleep, movement, people, focused work. If your screen time is mostly unplanned scrolling and you regularly wish you had that time back, it's too much for you.
Does work screen time count?
Leave it out. This calculator is most useful for the time you choose: your phone, social media, video. That's the part you can change, and the part people regret.
How can I cut my screen time?
Go after your biggest app first, not your whole phone. Set a daily limit on it, block it during your worst hours, and charge your phone outside the bedroom. Our Digital Detox Plan Generator builds a plan around your own habits.
